The Controversial Subject of Tithing
“Tithing is not for today,” many purport; to their own destruction.
Tithing is just as relevant today as it ever has been. Many tout that tithing is not in the new testament and therefore, defunct. This is wholly untrue as I learned one day while attempting to apply justice from my own perspective:
I was attending a church, and I suspected the money I was giving was being misused. I complained to the Lord more than once, but it seemed He was not going to correct the problem, so I decided to take justice into my own hands.
The following week, I gave my entire tithe directly to a needy person in the church. “That takes care of that, ” I thought, as I walked out of church.
The next day, I got a phone call from the woman, thanking me for my generosity; to which I replied, “No problem, you are welcome.” Upon hanging up the phone, the Lord immediately said:
“You took credit for my money.”
I had taken His money and decided what I wanted to do with it. I immediately knew I had to give another 10% to the church so God would see the 10% I gave to the poor woman as a gift.
It was a painful lesson I never forgot. He had actually called my tithe “His money,” perfectly executing the precision of His Word:
Malachi 3:8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
Make no mistake, God has not changed; curses and blessings are tied directly to tithing; which is received is determined by choice – based upon obedience or deception.
If there is doubt, inquire of the Lord; don’t let a man establish your belief system:
Let the Word of God do it.
Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
Malachi 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not…
Malachi 3:9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
Romans 3:3-4 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
John17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
